Dorys texted me from the parking lot a little before 10:30 am to let me know she was on her way. We had a table set-up for her as requested by her assistant a couple days prior. I really liked working with Dorys and her office because they were very professional and documented everything for me.
Dorys started on my MOH's hair first. MOH and I had decided on a side pony, and I absolutely love what Dorys did.
Next she did my hair. She confirmed the changes I requested and then got started. At first, I thought the poof on top was too much...
But once we put the veil on, I was happy with the way it looked.
I also loved the way my make-up turned out. Dorys really listened to what I wanted and delivered. The only disappointment with the whole experience is that I had requested airbrush make-up (and paid extra for it), but she was unable to do it. When she went to set-up her machine, she realized that she was missing an important piece and was unable to find anyone who could deliver it in time. She felt really bad about it and had to do our makeup with traditional foundation. I was surprising laid-back about the whole thing, determined not to let anything ruin my day. There was nothing I could do about it, so I just let it go. In the end, I was happy with the results, and the make-up stayed put throughout the night without sweating off or feeling heavy. Dorys also sent me a refund for the airbrush makeup fee and a giftcard to come in for a free make-up application since she felt bad. I would have preferred she refund me for the whole make-up application, but I can use the giftcard for my upcoming TTD shoot, so it works out well. Here's a few pictures of the make-up and a picture with Dorys.
I was really happy with the results and felt beautiful the whole night!
Hi jamie!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all congrats and what a beautiful wedding it turned out to be!
I'm planning my wedding also this coming September and had a few questions...if you don't mind me asking.
How did you get everything to match? (i.e. table runner, card box, invitations, etc...)
did you make the card box yourself?
who was your florist? i love the arrangement!
Hi Liz! Thank you and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
ReplyDeleteI printed my own stationary, so that is how I got the invitations, table cards, and favor boxes to match. Damask is a pretty common print, but it can vary greatly.
I just happened to find the card box at Ross one day (such a great deal at $7)...I had planned to change the ribbon to a purple one to tie it in with my colors, but as it got closer to the wedding day, decided to just leave it black. All I had to do was cut the slit in the top to make it a card box. I'm now using it to store wedding memorabilia.
The table runners are from REA Events...when we went to meet with her, she showed us several damask and black/white patterned fabrics...this one just happened to be perfect and match the swirls in my stationary.
My florist was Michelle Maeda from Flowergirls Hawaii. She was really sweet and easy to work with. A felt it was a little expensive, but I am super happy with my flowers and would definitely recommend her.
Good luck and best wishes!
Thanks for the info Jamie!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try Dory's for a makeup trail, hopefully she does a nice job for me as she did for you! I read a couple of yelp reviews and some did not have a good experience.
Btw, i might be interested in buying those table numbers & frames for my wedding. :X
I shall contact you in a few weeks about them.

Hi Liz! I read those Yelp reviews about Dorys too but decided to give her a try anyway. I felt pretty comfortable after the trial, and was even happier with the results on the actual day. I hope she works out well for you too!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you're interested in the table numbers and frames...I would love it if someone else could make use of them! I was planning to keep it because I love them so much, but I really can't find another use for them!
