Introducing...Miss Pug!

This blog will be ala Weddingbee style where the blogger is known by an icon. A while back, they had a post on characters remaining for new "bees", and I instantly knew what I would be...Miss Pug (after my dear furbaby)!

Centerpiece Trial

When we first started thinking about our budget, I was thinking about $20 per centerpiece.  Then I did some research and found that people regularly spent $100+ per centerpiece.  Egad!  With 25 tables, that would quickly eat up a large part of our budget.  We decided to try and see if we could DIY our centerpieces and save some money.  Here are some of the inspiration pictures I found:

After shopping around a bit and experimenting with some orchid sprays, we decided to go with a simple tall vase with a submerged orchid stem.  We added black river rocks to the bottom and a submersible tea light to illuminate the flowers.  It looks really cool when we turn down the lights.

The budget breakdown for this centerpiece:
Vase - $7 (Ross)
River Rocks - $1.50 ($5/5 lbs at Target)
Submersible Tea Light - $2.50 ($25/10-pack at Floradec)
Orchid Stem - $1.50 (University Flowers)
Water - Free! (I'm just using plain ol' tap water)

What are some DIY projects you are taking on to save money?

Make an Impression

I saw a personal hand embosser featured in a post on Weddingbee today and I had to have one!  I ordered one from Paper-Source and can't wait to get it.  As quoted from the Paper-Source site, it's "a very classy way to make an impression!"  I'm a sucker for puns...  :)

Invitation Trial

These are a couple mock-ups I did at home.  Actual invites would be printed using a laser printer on metallic paper.  These were printed using an ink jet on copier paper.  I'm trying to decide between these two designs.  I wasn't planning to fall into the damask trend, but it is growing on me...

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping

After looking at hundred of pictures online, I really like the look of a simple black dress.  I know black is not traditional for a wedding, but I love how elegant, clean, and classic it looks.  It also creates a beautiful backdrop for the bouquet to "pop" against.

There are so many different styles available, so it should be easy to find an affordable dress that my bridesmaid could possibly use again.  I took my MOH to White House Black Market so that we could start our search.  Here's my favorite from the day.
